It was magical, and it is magical, the fact that every winter the cod make the long journey down from the Barents Sea to spawn in Lofoten. Down along the coast of Finnmark and Troms, past
Senja and Vesterålen and across the shallow areas along the Lofoten mountain wall.
Throughout history they have let themselves be caught here by small boats with rudimentary fishing gear – a line with a hook on the end. A line that not only the fish, but an entire nation hangs on.

Magisk var det og magisk er det at skreien hver vinter kommer den lange veien fra Barentshavet til Lofoten for å gyte. Opp langs kysten av Finnmark og Troms, forbi Senja og Vesterålen og inn over de grunne havområdene langs Lofotveggen.

Der har den gjennom historien latt seg fange fra små båter og med enkelt redskap – et snøre med krok. Et snøre som ikke bare fisken, men hele nasjonen i alle år har dinglet i.
