Ministries

The church ministers are a collection of individuals who receive a calling from God to serve not only their church but their community.  There are a great number of opportunities to serve and strengthen your own faith, and help strengthen the faith of others .  Pastoral and Liturgical ministries continue to be vital roles in the church and there are many that have answered the call to serve.  If you too wish to answer God's call to serve, please contact the Parish office to discuss your interests.

Who are the Catholic Daughters of the Americas? The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. They donate to charities, administer scholarship programs and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness.” The CDA motto is “Unity and Charity.” Our Lady of Mercy Regent is Lily Cantú-Salinas.

CDA meet once a month on the first Thursday of the month.

Ministers of the Eucharist

Ministers of the Eucharist assist the celebrant and deacons distributing the Eucharist at liturgical celebrations.  Ministers of the Eucharist serve our Parish under appointment by the Bishop through the Pastor.  The Eucharist constitutes the very life of the Church, for the Lord said, "I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me shall ever be hungry, no one who believes in me shall ever thirst."  In addition to serving during the celebrations, ministers for the home-bound is also an important ministry.

Adoration

Adoration is a sign of devotion to and worship of Jesus Christ, who is present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, under the appearance of the consecrated host.  As a devotion,  Eucharistic adoration and meditation are more than merely looking at the Blessed Host, but a continuation of what was celebrated in the Eucharist.  The Blessed Sacrament is exposed to and adored by the faithful weekly on Wednesdays between 7:30 a.m. concluding with Vespers and Benediction at 6:30pm.

Sacristans
Sacristans serve the assembly by preparing all the physical objects and elements needed for the Mass. They prepare the vessels for the Eucharistic liturgy, set out appropriate quantities of bread and wine, assist the priest and other ministers in vesting, ensure that the books are properly placed, and when the Mass is over, clean and put away all the vessels and objects used during the celebration.  By being responsible for the material things of worship, sacristans grow in appreciation of how liturgy works as a series of signs. By enabling reverent and joyful celebrations, sacristans create a hospitable house for the church as they prepare the place for the liturgy.
